REQUIREMENTS
All Shredded Aluminum Used Beverage Can Scrap received by Golden Metals Trading, LLC - conform to the following specifications:
Product Density:
15.5 pounds per cubic foot as determined by random samples taken from each trailer
Product Size:
The material should contain no more than:
4.0% - 1.5” mesh particles (US Standard screen size)
35.0% - 3/8” mesh particles (US Standard screen size)
5.0% - 4 mesh fines (US Standard screen size)
2.5% - 12 mesh fines (US Standard screen size)
Material Quality Requirements:
- Material must be magnetically separated.
- Material must be visually free of lead (Pb)
- Material should be free of any and all non-aluminum material.
- Aluminum items, other than UBCs, are strictly limited to incidental quantities of household foil, foil containers, food cans and aluminum aerosol cans.
- Non-domestic metal will be accepted only with prior notification and acceptance by the user plant.
- Unsatisfactory findings based on visual inspection are grounds for rejection.
LOADING
- A 12-inch minimum clearance should be maintained between the trailer roof and the shreds across the entire length of the load. The maximum acceptable trailer length is 53 feet.
- The use of bulkheads is discouraged.
- Golden Metals Trading, LLC will not be responsible for trailer damage incurred as a result of incorrectly loaded material.
SHIPPING DOCUMENTATION
Prior to the arrival of each shipment, a delivery appointment must be issued to the receiving plant. A completed bill of lading must accompany each load. Shipments with incomplete or improperly filled out shipping documentation will not be received. The receiving facility is not responsible for demurrage incurred as a result of improper documentation.
AUDITING
By virtue of shipping material, the supplier or subcontractor has agreed to afford Golden Metals Trading, LLC the right to verify, at the supplier’s or subcontractor’s premises, that the product/process conforms to specified requirements.
PHYSICAL QUALITY
All shredded UBC received should be commercially free of all contaminants and shall have passed over a magnetic separator. Observations made by the Scrap Tender shall be sufficient for actions taken through the Grading and Deduct System for UBC. Scrap Tenders have been trained to assess levels of contamination in the UBC stream and are knowledgeable of the base levels of contamination inherent in this material stream.
Shipments found to contain the following are subject to automatic rejection:
1. Medical waste (i.e., hypodermic needles, syringes, I.V. bags, etc.)
2. Free lead
3. Bottle caps
4. Butane lighters
The following materials are considered to be contaminants:
Moisture
Iron and steel
Free lead
Plastic (all kinds)
Glass
Dirt, sand or other fines
Concrete
Paper and cardboard

Insulation
Bottle caps
Wood
Castings
Trash
Grease, oil and flammable materials
Gravel
Other free heavy metals (Zn, Cu, Brass, etc.)

Shreds not meeting the noted requirements at the user plant’s discretion will either be rejected or subjected to weight deductions.
Shreds unloaded in the truck dumper shall be analyzed for moisture using an infrared moisture analyzer and assessed for contamination using a qualitative grading. Deductions will be assessed using the Grading and Deduct System for UBC.
Shreds unloaded using alternative means shall be assessed for product quality using random sampling techniques in association with visual inspection.
Items not covered in this specification are subject to special arrangement between user plant and seller.
SAFETY
We will not accept any loads containing the following materials deemed to be dangerous in the shredding and melting process:
Explosives
Live ammunition
Al. Lithium alloys
Gasoline
Propane bottles
Butane lighters
Hypodermic needles
Syringes
Medical wastes
Powders

Unidentifiable materials
Unknown chemicals
Fertilizers
Heavy oxidation
Residue and other materials containing nitrates
Batteries
Free lead
PCBs
Radioactive sources

Radioactive detection monitors are installed on the scale. All scrap is screened for radioactivity before receipt into the plant. If radioactive material is detected, the driver will be asked to park the truck in a specific location until the radiation is measured with a hand- held monitor, state authorities are contacted and the source of the radiation has been removed by appropriate personnel. Should the driver not comply with these procedures, the State Police will be notified that a truck is being operated on public roads with radioactive material.
The shipper agrees that the material shall be free from the above listed items. The shipper shall be responsible for and shall reimburse Golden Metals Trading for any costs resulting from the inclusion of these items. The shipper shall assume all responsibility for any and all cleanup, reconditioning and associated lost production costs that may be incurred. Any material that is rejected for safety or contamination will be reported to Golden Metals Trading, LLC.
SPECIFICATION WAIVER
Any deviation from this specification desired by the producing plant shall be approved by Golden Metals Trading, LLC.
